Maya Tutorial : Interface, Navigation and Transformation Tools

July 2, 2010 Filed Under: Autodesk Maya, PDF

This tutorial is aimed at beginners in 3D or artists new to Maya 2008. If you are working with other versions of Maya, you may find that some of the terms or interface images used differ from your version. You should consult the Maya help files (Help -> Maya Help) to check for version-specific terminology and interface layouts.
No knowledge of Maya is required to complete this tutorial. To open Maya on campus, look for Autodesk Maya 2008 from the Start Menu. It will most likely be under Specialist User Applications. The Maya interface may initially appear cluttered and overly complicated. You probably won’t use most of what you see on the default user interface that often (if at all). The trick is to learn what the various UI elements are and what they contain.
